Weekly Meal Rotation Generator
Builds a dinner rotation for one to four weeks from 117 real dishes. No dish repeats, and neighbouring days differ in cuisine and main ingredient. With the standard settings every week gets fish twice.

How the generator builds a week
- It sets the mix for the week. With the standard settings: two fish dinners, two meatless dinners, and the other three split between poultry and red meat. Red meat never appears more than 3 times in a week.
- It spreads the mix over the days, so two dinners of the same kind do not sit next to each other where that can be avoided.
- It picks a dish for each day. The dish must not have been used in the rotation, must differ from the day before in cuisine and in main ingredient, and has to fit your time limit from Monday to Friday. Where there is a choice, it takes a cuisine the week has not had yet.
- If nothing fits, it loosens one rule at a time and tells you which: first the cuisine, then the main ingredient, then the time limit. Repeats come last.
The two fish dinners follow the advice for adults to eat at least 8 ounces of seafood a week. The cap on red meat follows the recommendation to stay at about three portions a week or fewer. Both are listed under Sources. The number of meatless dinners is a preference, so you can set it yourself.

Getting a rotation to stick
- Start with two weeks. Cook through the plan once before you judge it.
- Swap out what nobody will eat before you shop, not on the day.
- Write one shopping list per week and keep it. The second time round the list is already done.
- Move days, not dishes. If Tuesday falls through, cook Tuesday's dinner on Wednesday and push the rest back. The order still avoids repeats.
- Put the long dishes on the weekend. The time limit only applies from Monday to Friday.
Weekly Meal Rotation Generator: Questions and Answers
- What is a meal rotation?A meal rotation is a fixed list of dinners that you cook in order and then start again. A two-week rotation has 14 dinners, a four-week rotation 28. You decide once what to cook, shop from the same lists and still do not eat the same thing every week.
- How many weeks should a rotation have? Two weeks is a good start: 14 dinners are easy to shop for, and no dish comes back sooner than after two weeks. Go to three or four weeks when the plan starts to feel repetitive.
- Does the generator plan breakfast and lunch? No. It plans dinners only, one per day.
- Can I get a vegetarian or vegan rotation?Yes. The list has 54 meatless dinners, 36 of them vegan. That is enough for four weeks without a repeat.
- What if my family does not like a dish?Use Swap next to the day. The generator replaces the dish with another one of the same kind that still fits between the days before and after it.
- Are the cooking times exact? No. They are typical total times for a home cook, from starting to prepare until the food is on the table. Your recipe may be faster or slower.
